Q:Do I need to be young and flexible to take part?
A: No is the resounding answer! Often people think this but if you are not flexible you can very quickly regain any flexibility you have lost. Likewise it’s great if you are looking to maintain or build flexibility further which is hugely helpful in many areas of our lives, so yoga is suitable for all ages and levels of flexibility. Q: Is yoga suitable for me?
A: Yoga is for all, no matter what the age or level of fitness. You are never too old or too young to start! Our students range in age from two up to eighty nine and all feel the immense benefits it brings. Everybody is a yoga body no matter of their age! Click to read my post on this
Q: Do I need to be thin to practice yoga?
A No, yoga is suitable for all shapes and sizes and wonderful for the bigger body.
Q: Can men do yoga?
A Yes! Yoga is becoming increasingly popular amongst men and is great for men’s health. Our classes include both women and men.
Q: What happens in a yoga class?
A: All classes involve relaxation, breathing, meditation and a series of postures that promote flexibility, strength, health and general wellbeing.
Q: What clothes should I wear?
A: Comfortable clothes such as leggings, track suit bottoms or shorts, with a t-shirt or vest. Layers are great to ensure you are not too hot or cold during a class.
Q: What footwear will I require?
A: Yoga is practised with bare feet to ensure you do not slip on your mat
Q: What can yoga do for me?
A: It can improve levels of fitness and flexibility as well as general wellbeing. It is great for mental health, including helping with overcoming depression and anxiety. Yoga also helps with insomnia as it promotes relaxation of both body and mind. It is also very good for asthma, as breathing exercises improve lung capacity and health. Q: How can I expect to feel after a class?
A: Relaxed and rejuvenated! Yoga calms the mind and the body
Q: What type of yoga do you teach?
A: I teach a style of sunpower yoga, which is based on the ancient yoga scriptures, drawing on different yoga traditions producing a type of yoga that is accessible to all. Sunpower yoga draws on four distinct forms and traditions, classical Hatha yoga, Sivananda Yoga, Iyendar yoga and Astanga yoga.
Q: What do I need to bring with me to class?
A: Just bring yourself! All equipment, including mats, blocks and belts are provided for you.
Q: Is yoga a religion?
A: No it isn’t a religion but it does have roots in ancient traditional Indian culture. Yoga can be a way of life, however you do not have to be religious or spiritual to take part and enjoy yoga’s many benefits.
Q: Do I need to be a vegetarian?
A: No, certainly not! Some yogis do however cut out or restrict the consumption of meat. This is part of the yogic philosophy not to commit harm to others or other living things.
Q: What are your qualifications?
A: I am a fully insured, qualified Sunpower Yoga Teacher. I hold a Yoga Alliance 200 hours qualification and have achieved YMCA level 3. I have also trained in children’s yoga with the Young Yogis Academy (which is certified by the Independant Yoga Network – IYN) and with Special Yoga in providing yoga to children with ASD and ADHD. I hold a Teen Yoga and mindfulness qualification too (certified by the Yoga Alliance)
Q: How long have you been practising yoga?
A: I have been practising since 2000 and have experience with a wide selection of yoga styles and teachers
Q: Why did you begin practising yoga?
A: I started yoga looking to address long standing problems with my mental health and also sciatica. I have found it to be hugely beneficial in helping me to remain relaxed, calm and well. My back is now a lot stronger and I very rarely suffer from sciatica. My regular practice helps prevent anxiety and other mental health related issues.
